Got a wedding or other important event coming up and need to lose weight in a week? Or perhaps you’ve just had enough and decided it’s time to lose weight right now. There are a lot of weight loss products on the market at the moment that promise incredible results in no time at all, but unfortunately the truth is if you really want to lose weight in a week, you’re going to have to put the effort in. However, if you do give it your all, you really can make a huge difference in only a week. So how is this possible?
Losing weight fast
Anyone who has ever been on a diet will know that it’s easiest to lose weight when the diet begins, and that’s not just because you have the most enthusiasm at the beginning of the diet. Actually, the more you weigh the easier it is to shed the pounds, so that’s why it’s very possible to lose quite a lot of weight in a week (especially the heavier you are). But you do still need to put a huge amount of effort into your week of serious weight loss, and the first thing to look at is where it all began with the food you eat.
If you’re looking for the best way to lose weight, there is no doing things by halves or rewarding yourself with a cheeky muffin. Serious weight loss in one week means cutting out all junk food. And I’m not just talking about quarter pounders and big slabs of chocolate cake; I mean all junk food. All chips, crisps, burgers, chocolate, cake and biscuits. You need to stay away from high calorie food as this is impossible to exercise off. For this type of weight loss you actually have to be breaking even or at a calorie deficit each day, and just one slice of high fat chocolate cake can make this very difficult to achieve, especially combined with the energy slump you will suffer after your blood sugar has spiked and crashed due to it.
However, this does not mean you have to be hungry to lose weight in a week. In fact, it’s vitally important that you’re not hungry, or hardly hungry at all for the whole process. It may seem counter-intuitive, but the key to really losing weight is actually trying to be satiated all the time. At first, this will be very difficult not through really being hungry but just because your body has become so addicted to junk food. Even if you are full, you will feel somehow dissatisfied. You have to just work through this, believe me it will go away. If in doubt, keep eating. But think very carefully about exactly what you’re eating.
You can eat as many vegetables as you like and you will never put on weight. This is the fastest way to lose weight. On the first day of your week of losing weight, really pile on the vegetables. Depending on how much weight you’re looking to lose and how heavy you are at the moment, you may need to cut out all carbohydrate for this week of intensive weight loss. This will be easier than you think as long as you remember that you can really eat as many vegetables as you like.
Is this really the best way to lose weight?
Perhaps you don’t like vegetables. Well, this doesn’t mean that you won’t ever like vegetables. If you’ve been suffering from a serious junk food addiction it will initially be difficult for you to like anything that doesn’t contain high quantities of salt, fat and sugar. Our taste buds are designed to privilege these tastes above all others, which is why obesity is such an epidemic problem. As you consume more of them, other food begins to lack taste. This is not really the case, though; it is merely an illusion caused by your excessive consumption of salt, fat and sugar.
Unfortunately switching from a junk food diet to a healthy diet will initially seem very bland, but don’t worry, it won’t always be this way. Once your body becomes used to normal tastes again you’ll be surprised at how tasty healthy food can really be. Eventually you may even stop liking foods with high salt, fat and sugar contents, as they begin to taste too salty, too fatty or too sugary. For the moment, you simply must persevere with healthy food if you really want to lose weight in a week.
However, I must emphasize you can’t eat as much as you like of anything else except vegetables. You should make sure to get an adequate supply of protein as this will fuel your workouts and help your muscle mass to increase (which in turn improves your metabolic rate), but don’t eat too much of this as protein can have quite a lot of calories too. You should aim to eat a little lean protein with every meal, but generally fill up on legumes and vegetables.
People who are used to eating junk food are always surprised by how filling vegetables can be on their own. Yes, they really can fill you up and, no, you will never put on weight. The key is to trick your body into thinking it’s always full so there is never time for a craving to really develop. The reason so many diets fail is not because they aren’t effective, but simply because they cause people to become too hungry, which causes them to snack, which causes them to put on weight again.
You should also consider cutting out alcohol for the fastest way to lose weight. Alcohol has a high calorie content (one glass of wine contains around 100 calories) and drains us of energy the next morning. A hangover also increases the temptation to eat junk food and be lazy, when you really need to get outside for a workout. If you are serious about losing weight in a week, you really shouldn’t drink.
Lose weight in a week with diet and exercise
Once you have your diet sorted and an endless supply of carrot sticks to hand, you’re ready to begin your intensive week long exercise regime. You should always begin the week with moderate exercise. Don’t try to go overboard too soon, especially if you’re not used to regular exercise. Depending on how fit you feel you are, you might like to go for a short, very gentle run, or swim. Swimming is especially good as it reaches a good number of muscles throughout the body, and gives a great cardiac workout without actually feeling particularly strenuous.
If you have a little trouble motivating yourself, it’s a great idea to join a class for a workout as it forces you to continue even when you want to give up. Otherwise, you could simply go running with a friend. Just having someone else around increases our determination to continue by many times over. After this first workout, you should feel tired but not exhausted. Your muscles should hurt a little, but they should not ache. You need to be able to keep the effort up to lose weight in a week, so don’t tire yourself out too soon.
On the second day, you need to up your efforts. You may be feeling a little strange by the second day as your body adjusts to a different diet and more exercise, but persevere. Your body will adjust. Remember not to let yourself become excessively hungry. If you do feel that you haven’t eaten enough and your blood sugar is low, feel free to eat. A banana is a really great source of energy and helps to regulate the electrolytes that can become unbalanced through exercise too.
Simple diet and exercise really is the easiest way to lose weight
Just by doing this small amount of exercise, you should be feeling your energy levels increase. You may also feel something resembling a small high as the endorphins that are associated with exercise flood your brain. You may surprise yourself by actually feeling good! Feeling good instead of miserable is really the best way to lose weight.
If your muscles are sore by the third day, you should allow yourself to have a rest. Do a different type of exercise, like walking for example. A long walk is quite easy on the muscles and can burn up quite a lot of calories. If you do feel very tired (the week of exercise really depends on what your original level of fitness was in the first place), you should allow yourself to have a day of rest. But make sure to stay away from junk food. Keep up this regime all week to lose weight in a week, remembering to vary the different exercises you’re doing so that you’re reaching different muscle groups, and you should see the weight fall off.
In truth, the best way to lose weight is a simple matter of balancing the calories you consume with the amount of exercise you do. Don’t ever attempt to under eat to compensate for a lack of exercise; if anything you should sway more towards eating slightly more and exercising more if you need to. Under eating and being hungry is exactly how diets fail.
